How to sell on Ebay for beginners
Learn more: christianpf.com As part of my de-cluttering process, I unload a lot of my stuff and random items by selling it on on Ebay. If you have never done it before, you will probably be surprised at how easy it is and how quick you can make a little money. Last time I de-cluttered, I made over $200 for only a few hours worth of time. This is a perfect follow-up to some major closet simplification. So, if you have a few hours of spare time, this may be a good way to make a few bucks.

So instead Collector Books would like you to join us in celebrating the retirement of Cathy and Gene Florence. For the nineteenth, and last time, we present Collector’s Encyclopedia of Depression Glass by America’s leading glassware authorities. Every edition has included new information and up to date prices. Beautiful color photos have been redone to show as many pieces as could be found over the years. New patterns have been added, year after year, until this title is as comprehensive as it can be. Legends have been added to make identification as easy a possible. Altogether the Florences leave behind a legacy that will not be surpassed. Don t miss out on the last edition of this wonderful book, sure to be collectible in its own right. 2010 values.

There are all kinds of little tips and bits of information that needs to be gathered, learned, and implemented before you can successfully market on the Internet. And the most important of those words is ‘implemented’. If your life is spent in learning mode, you will never accomplish anything. Take risks, see what works and what doesn’t. When I fail, those are the lessons I learn the best. Here are some of my beginner pieces of advice:

Register your domain. I use Netfirms for that. Choose a catchy domain name, preferably one that contains a keyword or two that describe your site. Mugsandmegs isn’t the greatest example, since I often have people asking me if I sell mugs – which I don’t usually. But you must admit it’s catchy.

Always try to purchase a domain name with a .com ending. Stay away from .info extensions- they are cheaper, so often used by spammers. And you don’t want to be included in their number. Note: the www is not included in your domain name, since it will automatically be added. I mention this because one of my students wanted a particular name, say it was’ fastcomputers.com’ and that wasn’t available. When he typed in ‘wwwfastcomputers.com’, that was. If he’d registered it, the domain would have looked like ‘www.wwwfastcomputers.com’ – not what he wanted. If you absolutely have to have a specific name, try hyphens. For instance: fast-computers.com.

Find an inexpensive hosting service that has all kinds of neat features, really easy to use, and has fast, reliable servers . My favorite is Hostgator. Show off your photos, display your ebay or craft items for sale, share valuable content and build a community of people who have the same interests.

Add an autoresponder. By using a service such as Aweber, you can add an opt-in form so people can subscribe. Opt-in simply means that a person signed up for your newsletter or website updates. Double opt-in is the term used when they not only sign up, but they click a link sent in a follow-up email to confirm that they did indeed want you to send the material.

Include adsense ads on your site as a bit of extra income. Adsense are those little ads by Google that you often see at the top, bottom, side, or in the middle of the content of a page. When you click one of those links, the person running the site -me, in this case – will get a few cents. When I say a bit of extra income, that’s exactly what I mean. Unless you have hundreds of sites, don’t expect to get rich that way.

Become an affiliate for products and services advertised on your website. An affiliate link sends your readers to a page where if they purchase a product, you get commission on it. For instance, the above links to Netfirms, Hostgator and Aweber are my affiliate links. You pay the same price either way, but by purchasing through my link, I also am paid a small amount. To do this, you first sign up for an account with the merchants you want to represent. Often, that information can be found by scrolling to the bottom of a merchant’s site and looking for a link that says ‘affiliates’.

Of course, to sell online you also need a way to collect money. The easiest thing to do is sign up for an account with Paypal if you haven’t already. You will need a Premier account in order to accept payments. That way people can easily pay you using a charge card without you having to fork out money for an expensive merchant account.

Technorati Tags: hosting, selling online, beginner Internet marketing

Seems like forever since I’ve updated this blog. Since I haven’t heard any emails of concern for me, I guess no one noticed. What have I been doing with myself, you ask? Or maybe you really don’t care, but I’ll tell you anyway. As of the beginning of January, 2010, I started watching my two young grandchildren during the day, every day. Ages one and four, I enjoy them very much, but by the time they go home, I’m ready to veg. We’re finally getting into a bit of a routine and I’m back to spending a bit of time on my computer.

I’ve also been off to Atlanta to an Internet marketers workshop and took a little video of an interview I did with Kevin Riley. Kevin is a marketer from Japan and an expert on creating how-to information products. Thanks to him, I’ve been able to start creating my own guides. I believe that every one of us has experiences and skills that others could benefit from, and creating an info product is the best way to share our knowledge.

Here’s the video. As you can see, standing beside Kevin looked like a scene from Land of the Giants.

We know that people coming to eBay are prepared to buy, they usually aren’t just window shopping. Rather than have them land on your sale page once and then forget about you, why not have another way to contact them?

eBay doesn’t allow you to advertise another site on your auctions, but on your About Me page, you can mention you have a blog and include a link to it. Then when people visit your site, have an opt-in form so that they can give you their first name and email address. That way you can keep in touch and let them know when you’re having a special auction.

You’ll have to give your readers a good reason to sign up with you. That could be a free report, some free tips you’ve gathered, or even just the promise that they will be the first to know the minute your auction is posted. You can also advertise current eBay auctions right from your blog.

An easy way to start a blog is with Blogger. It’s free, easy to use, and fun as well. I recently conducted a workshop at the local community center and talked about starting a Blogger Blog. I recorded it and am including it in this post so you can have a listen.

Instead of clicking on ‘Sell’ and creating your listing, click ‘Sell’, then ‘Advanced Sell’.

Anyone can sell anything on eBay. Open an account, list your product, and wait for the bids to start coming in. While it is true that anyone can sell, to be successful, you need all of the little tricks of the trade. Thousands and thousands of people are making a full or part-time living just by selling on eBay. And its popularity is still increasing. Take your time and learn all you can about this method of making money online.

When you first get started, it can be a little unnerving. The best option is to begin by looking around your own home. Think of items that you would sell in a garage sale. But instead of pricing each item and lugging it outside hoping for a nice sunny day, you can advertise them on eBay. By starting with items you no longer want, you can make mistakes and learn without spending a lot of money and with no regrets.

Although there are several other quality auction websites, eBay is by far the most popular and most successful. You could use all the other sites as well, but by spreading yourself too thin you risk getting things mixed up. In reality, it’s better to use eBay and focus your attention and efforts on this one site. You can always try the others once you know better what you’re doing.

First, navigate through each section of eBay to familiarize yourself with all the different pages. You will find a site map and help files, which are very useful tools. It will take a little time to get used to the site but before long you’ll get the hang of it. As you start selling, navigating will become much easier.

Well, the eBay workshop for today was cancelled at Momiji due to lack of interest. I had mixed feelings about making the trip into Toronto, so that was fine.

I am wondering if anyone would be interested in participating in a free teleseminar? I would choose a time and date and give you a phone number to call in. The call would also be recorded so anyone not available could listen in later on your computer. Note that long distance charges apply (that’s how the conference company makes their money).

We can talk about eBay, making money online, selling information products, blogging, whatever you like. Please comment and let me know if you’re interested.

Update: I’ll ask about this again in the fall.
